Flow Communications

Flow recently launched the new South African Tourism United States website, built on ExpressionEngine 2. The site is aligned with the global southafrica.net and boasts a similar design and navigation structure.

The site promotes South Africa to a US audience and includes fact sheets, top 10 lists, articles on South Africa’s major attractions and planning information. US web users constitute the second biggest traffic segment to http://www.southafrica.net after South Africans themselves.

The project required migrating from a SilverStripe installation to ExpressionEngine 2. Flow web developer Reatile Tshikalange oversaw the content migration task, while fellow developer Alex Cowling integrated the new South African Tourism look and feel. Head of web development Richard Frank performed the final deployment and redirects to the new site.

“The more we do large-scale migrations, the smoother they seem to go! The changeover was seamless and we’re happy with the performance of the new site,” says Frank.

“With many potential clients now specifically requesting moving over to ExpressionEngine, we’re happy to add SilverStripe migrations to the list.”

ExpressionEngine is used by major brands including Barack Obama, Sony, the BBC and Disney. Flow has built more than 100 websites using the publishing platform.

Adele du Toit, webmaster for South African Tourism, said: “I like to work with the Flow team, as they are approachable and value their clients’ feedback and input. Requirements are given priority attention and we had regular feedback sessions to cover and tend to any issues.

“I can without hesitation, recommend their services to anyone who is looking for a decent, functional and well supported website or any other digital asset.”
