Flow Media developer Richard Frank with Nthabiseng Shongwe
On 29 May 2008, Cell C’s annual Take a Girl Child to Work Day, Flow Communications hosted Nthabiseng Shongwe, a Grade 10 pupil from St Stithians Girls’ College in Johannesburg, South Africa, to show her the company’s daily activities.
Nthabiseng reports:
“Today I arrived at Flow Communications, a graphic design and communications company, and was welcomed with a cup of coffee and warm introductions to my ‘colleagues’ for the day. I was sent straight to work and began with the graphic design team, helping them organise a Powerpoint that they were going to present later in the day. I enjoyed searching the web to find pictures that would be used in the presentation.
“During the course of the day I shifted to the web design side,where I learned how to organise websites and post various things from one site to another.
“Lunch-time came and we all dug into a tasty macaroni and cheese dish, then went to the boardroom to prepare for the presentation. The presentation went well and I really enjoyed being able to take part inthe discussions and votes taken for different suggestions.
“After lunch came more work but I happily jumped to the tasks given to me. Towards the end of my day I was sad to leave. I hope that one day I will return not as a school girl for the day, but a working woman for life.”
