Earlier this year, Flow Communications received its first BEE rating – a respectable Level 4. We rated particularly well in the categories of ownership, employment equity and management control.
Flow received a B-BBEE score of 66.61 and is considered a value-adding enterprise.
We are 100% South African-owned, 30% black-owned, and 70% owned by women.
“We are proud to receive this rating,” says Flow’s CEO, Tara Turkington. “We have always sought to build a company that is diverse in terms of race, gender, age and experience, because we believe that a diverse company is a stronger, more sustainable one in the long term. It’s great that this is recognised in the BEE-rating process.”
Ironically, Turkington points out, the area Flow was weakest in was procurement from outside suppliers. “We don’t have many external suppliers, as we do most of our work in-house, apart from printing,” she says. “Most of our printers do not have good empowerment credentials, so they let us down a bit there.”
Every company that is BEE rated must choose four from seven categories to be rated on. “Now we know that procurement wasn’t a strong point, we’ll choose another category, such as socio-economic development, when we are rated again next year,” says Turkington. “This means we should receive an even better rating in the future.”
Should any of our clients require a copy of our BEE certificate for their own BEE-rating procedures, we would be happy to provide this.
