New Flow designer Gaynore Adams is a laid-back, easy-to-talk-to individual who keeps things simple. Her motto, “Don’t overcomplicate things”, works well with her designer title.
“A good designer will always find the easiest and quickest way of doing things,” she says.
We can thank her Damelin lecturer for her career in web design – he quit just as Gaynore was about to enrol in a 3D course in 2004. “So I did web design instead, and just as I was about to finish, my brother’s friend started a web design company and he employed me.”
Nine years and a few companies later, and Gaynore finds herself at Flow. She was notified of the vacancy at Flow by fellow newbie and friend Kiril Velkov.
“Kiril and I have worked together before and we’ve known each other for a few years. He told me Flow is a cool place to work and I should send my CV. I’m finding the environment friendly, with relaxed, cool people so far,” she says.
Says Kiril, “Gaynore is an exceptionally kind and helpful colleague. She is known for her speed of delivery for any project you give her. She is reliable and highly creative.”
Gaynore’s cat, Lestat, receives a special mention because he is a “very scroemphie but sweet” Cornish Rex that acts like a dog. “His favourite game is playing fetch with my partner, Derrick,” she says.
When they are not playing with Lestat, the couple of three years enjoys watching movies, playing “geeky” games and socialising. Gaynore also enjoys reading sci-fi and fantasy books. She’s currently reading the old-school series of Dune by Frank Herbert.
For her very own fantasy dinner party, she would invite the following (living or otherwise) people:
- Jackie Chan: “Just because he’s so awesome.”
- Jack Black: “I dig his band and movies.”
- Nelson Mandela: “I would love to hear his story first-hand.”
- Jimmy Carr: “I love his sense of humour and the fact that he has no filter. Him and Jack would probably get along, and I’d have a kick-ass dinner!”
Design studio manager Lorraine Gumede says of Gaynore: “We’re very excited to have Gaynore join the Flow design team. She’s settled in very well and is an extremely talented designer.”
Flow Exhibitions CEO Janet Berger adds: “What really appealed to us about Gaynore was how very down to earth and capable she appeared. We are becoming quite a big design team and the feeling was that Gaynore would bring a great balance to the studio. She seems willing to push herself into new fields and deliver whatever may be required, and at Flow, where you never really know what tomorrow will bring, this is a great attribute. Her humour and a very proficient portfolio were also telling factors.”
