Flow Communications

Here at Flow Communications we provide a number of communication services, one being media training.

Simply put, we teach people how to handle media enquiries and work with the press. As a company CEO or spokesperson, it is extremely important to know what to say, what not to, and how to present yourself.

Flow Communications has trained representatives from more than 20 companies, including Deloitte, Liberty, Growthpoint, Ster-Kinekor and Investec.

Focusing on theory and practice, our clients are taught how the media industry and newsrooms work, as well as the do’s and don’ts when receiving a media enquiry.

We give tips on how to appear confident and answer questions, whether they are posed by the presenter of a TV or radio show, or by print or digital journalists.

To offer practical experience, we create an actual scenario where clients are interviewed. Through a staged press conference, our clients are directly approached by journalists, and one-on-one “TV interviews”, which are recorded by Flow’s technical team.

These recordings are made available to clients after the training.

The training is aimed at enabling our clients to easily and comfortably interact with members of the media.

“When clients appear in front of the camera for the first time, they’re very nervous,” says Flow media trainer and writer Daphney Mngomeni. “We then show them the recordings of the mock interviews and give them feedback on what they can improve in the second round of interviews.

“The second time round, they’re definitely more sure of themselves and carry themselves better. It’s amazing to see how their confidence grows in a matter of minutes, and that’s really what handling media enquiries is about – confidence in yourself and what you’re saying,” concludes Daphney.
