The year 2016 started on a negative note for South Africa, with racism incidents dominating news headlines and trending on social media. Behind the scenes, however, a determined group of individuals had already created a framework to begin addressing this societal challenge that’s still lingering, 21 years into democracy.
Flow is proud to be a part of this journey, having designed, developed and launched a website for the Anti-Racism Network of South Africa (ARNSA) this week.
“We are very pleased with our new online presence. The website Flow Communications conceptualised and launched for ARNSA meets all our immediate operational needs. The site has enabled us to house ARNSA’s guiding principles, to feature the organisations that form the ARNSA network, to announce the launch of Anti-Racism Week, and to extend a welcome to individuals and organisations interested in participating in the activities ARNSA is planning,” says Neeran Naidoo, director: communications and outreach at the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Spearheaded by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Foundation, together with civil society groups and academic institutes, ARNSA came into being in November 2015.
In his address on the occasion, Nelson Mandela Foundation CEO Sello Hatang contextualised the importance of tackling racism. “Racism, in its varied forms, has arguably maintained the inequality which is fast becoming the defining challenge of our generation,” he said.
Now comprising more than 85 community organisations that aim to combat racism through research, training, and co-ordination to combat racism, ARNSA this week announced the launch of Anti-Racism Week, which will run from 14 March to 21 March 2016.
