Home Safety1

You deserve to be safe. We deserve to be safe ...

This simple concept forms the backbone of a newly launched initiative called National Home Security Month (NHSM), which will be recognised around South Africa during June this year.

For most South Africans, issues of security are often at the forefront of our day-to-day thinking. But sometimes we settle into reactive behaviour when it comes to securing our homes and families, rather than taking proactive measures to ensure our loved ones and belongings remain safe.

“Now is the perfect time to set up a positively oriented, consumer help group in South Africa, to combat the absence of a cohesive security industry group and answer a desperate need for positive experiences and knowledge around safety and security in the home,” says marketing and business development manager at door-opening solutions company ASSA ABLOY, Hayley Elwen.

“NHSM will link homeowners to manufacturers and suppliers, insurers, retailers, installers and other helpful associations.”

NHSM was first conceptualised in the UK in 2013, and has since grown from strength to strength by demonstrating its value through steadily growing memberships and positive media coverage, with a relative increase in sales numbers for NHSM partners.

Flow has begun working closely with ASSA ABLOY to recreate that success in South Africa, fostering positive conversations around home security, and how each person – whether in an individual capacity or as part of an organisation – has the power to make a difference.

Flow created the new NHSM website, set up their social media channels and created a detailed PR plan to guide the launch of the initiative, which will roll out over the next few months.

“The new NHSM website has a simple, clean and user-friendly look and feel, with a diverse range of security tips and information throughout,” says Flow writer and NHSM project manager Stuart Dickinson.

“It also serves as a hub to get in touch with a range of security partners, who will provide expert information on a variety of topics. We’re really excited to be part of this initiative, and look forward to helping it gain momentum,” adds Stuart.
