Flow Communications

In a perfect example of creativity, innovation and integration, Etana Insurance (one of Flow Communications’ favourite clients) recently came to the rescue of Afrika Tikkun (one of Flow PR’s favourite clients).

Afrika Tikkun is a non-governmental organisation that provides education, health and social services to children, youth and their families through centres of excellence in South African townships. Its aim is to empower communities to develop new generations of productive citizens.

Each year, more than 800 children from Afrika Tikkun community centres in Alexandra, Braamfontein, Diepsloot and Orange Farm participate in a friendly inter-centre athletics competition. It’s often the highlight of the year for these kids but this year, sponsorship difficulties left the event’s future in doubt.

Upon hearing of these difficulties, Flow PR appealed to Etana Insurance, which came to the rescue with a promise to provide the insurance requirements of the event free of change – thereby relieving Afrika Tikkun of the need to raise this portion of the event’s budget.

Thanks to Etana and the other sponsors – the Johannesburg Stadium, Discovery Health, Coca-Cola and King David Linksfield – the children were able to take to the field at the Johannesburg Stadium on Sunday, 9 September, for the sixth annual Afrika Tikkun Sports Day and Mini-Olympics.

The older children, from seven to 16 years of age, competed in soccer, netball and, for the first time, an Olympic sport – athletics; the younger children, between three and six years of age, participated in a mini-Olympics, with activities such as big-shoe races, washing-line races and sack races.
