Nevertheless, while all our attention is focused on the undead, we should not forget that there are many of us still living, who from time to time require blood donations.

Unlike on Halloween, however, you will not be lured into a haunted house or summoned to a graveyard. Instead, a team of smiling, cheerful and understanding health workers will ease you into a relaxed position, take your blood and then reward you with a cookie and some juice (must keep those blood sugar levels up, after all).
The South African National Blood Service urges South Africans to donate blood at least four times a year. Blood saves lives – and this is your chance to be a lifesaver (and not a blood-sucker).
