The team at Flow Exhibitions has been very busy designing the new exhibition space for the Ditsong Museum of Natural History’s Biodiversity and Bird halls. Having just finished the preliminary phase of concept design, Flow Exhibitions has been given the go-ahead to go into phase two – design development.
The first phase of the redesign involved Ditsong giving Flow Exhibitions a script of what they wanted to be communicated in the two exhibition halls, the physical collections, and showing Flow Exhibitions the existing space that needs to be redesigned.
“Part of phase one was deciding how traffic was going to flow through the museum, and how we were going to pace visitors and where the different focal points would be. We also had to decide on how we were going to present all the information on different media – was it going to graphical, digital, audio and so on?” says Janet Berger, CEO of Flow Exhibitions.
“The concept design was presented to Ditsong mid-December last year and now, in the second phase, we will be doing a detailed design of each space in the halls,” continues Janet.
Janet will be getting the help of a student architect who is going to build 3D models of the two halls, which will help make the conceptual ideas more real and solid.
“It’s really important that an exhibition tells a story. Ideas and concepts need to flow and with over 70 installations, we have to make sure that there’s consistency as well,” says Janet.
