New to the Flow Communications team is Tinashe Gunda, who joined the web development studio on 1 August 2012.
Tinashe is from Zimbabwe, and came to South Africa in 2006 to study for his Diploma in Information Technology. He now lives in Midrand with his wife (he married last September) and their seven-month-old baby girl, Ruvarashe – which means God’s flower.
Tinashe had been working at South African History Online before joining Flow.
“I guess IT grew on me when I was working as a data capturer,” he says. “And I grew up with a computer in the house, which is unusual in Zimbabwe.
“I remember my Dad bought this computer and we’d sit on it all day and play Solitaire,” he says of his earliest memories of a computer – a good start on the road to becoming a developer.
Tinashe says he’s somewhat “intimidated” by his fellow Flow geeks at the moment because they seem to only “speak in code”. But he says he welcomes the challenge, and once he learns how everything works, he’ll be fine.
He enjoys soccer, and is also looking for a “worthy opponent” at Flow to pit his chess skills against says Tinashe with a smile on his face.
Fellow developer Klaus Alusa says, “For the few days that Tinashe has been here, he seems a calm and collected person and is willing to learn. He’s self-driven and dedicated. We are all looking forward to working with him in the development team.
