Five different leopards in four game drives? Unbelievable! Cheetah Plains is misnamed – the place is dripping with leopards!

Cheetah Plains is a small private game reserve within the greater Sabi Sand Reserve, located on the western border of the Kruger National Park. Flow built the Cheetah Plains website a couple of years ago, and since then some of my colleagues have been lucky enough to visit. A few weeks ago, it was finally my turn!

The lodge was full, but the camp is small and intimate, and it didn’t feel crowded. The service was excellent, the staff extremely friendly and helpful, and the food, like the oxtail cooked in a traditional South African potjie (three-legged pot), irresistible. And did I mention the game watching? We had several drives in which we saw all the Big Five and more, even though it rained on some of the drives. The game at Cheetah Plains is incredible.

I am so glad to have finally experienced the hospitality of this wonderful client of Flow’s in person, and I am now going to recommend it even more loudly and further afield than before. I think it offers great value for money in the Sabi Sand Reserve, where many other lodges are far pricier.

Below is a selection of 12 of the many pictures I took:

Leopard In Tree
This is a large male leopard the guides at Cheetah Plains have named 'Mvula', which means 'rain'. Very appropriately, it was drizzling lightly as we watched him relaxing in a tree
Impala In The Grass
Impala are such beautiful antelope. My search for a perfect impala picture is never ending ...
