Flow Communications has just produced a book for one of its long-standing clients, St Mary’s School. Entitled Day in the Life of the St Mary’s School Family, the book contains photographs and creative writing from 19 March 2008.
St Mary’s girls took pictures of their activities, friends and surroundings throughout that day to depict the spirit and scope of StMary’s in its 120th anniversary year.
Flow graphic designer Ernesto Joseph, who designed the book, says he thoroughly enjoyed the work. “It was a very good concept to let the kids take pictures of their day. What struck me was that some of these girls are very good photographers.”
Ernesto met the design challenge of finding space for as many contributions as possible, while achieving a good balance of subject matter and making each page special.
“I enjoyed taking the concept to a new level and using pictures to show the spirit of St Mary’s,” he says. “I worked with Tiffany and Lorraine and together we came up with ways of making the concept as original as possible.”
St Mary’s School, situated in Waverley, was established in 1888 – which makes it one of the oldest schools in Johannesburg. This colourful book will be a delightful treasure trove of memories for the girls, staff and families as they acknowledge the past 120 years and move on into the future.
