The summit, which will for the first time be held in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, is a world-class event, described by those who have attended in previous years as not to be missed.

The key focus of the summit will be the ever-increasing use of mobile technologies in the travel space.

Damian Cook, CEO of E-Tourism Frontiers, which is organising the events, emphasises the importance of online tourism: “With over 59% of travel now being researched, booked and bought online, attributing to over $400-billion in travel sales, ensuring that the African
tourism sector is partaking in and benefiting from this fast-growing space is essential for the sector’s growth and survival.”

The summit will also showcase the latest tools and trends on how travel and tourism industry members can best leverage social media for their businesses. Attendees at the summit can also look forward to seminars, training sessions and hands-on workshops.

Confirmed speakers at this year’s summit include, among others, online travel and tourism experts such as Cook; Brett St Clair, Google Enterprise country manager for South Africa; Sally Broom, founder of Tripbod.com; and Helena Egan of TripAdvisor.

“The human face of travel is really becoming more important online,” says Cook. “When people are researching a trip, they now want to see opinions and comments from a trusted, and often local, source.

“The value of local, real-time experts is now hugely important, and sites such as TripAdvisor and Facebook are seeing this change and ensuring that travel content has a genuine human presence.”

Several other local and international travel bloggers and speakers who have not presented at the summit before will also be in attendance to give innovative ideas and thoughts, including Roy Potterill of Mobile Media Mob, blogger Kash Bhattacharya of Budget Traveller, and William Price, global manager: digital at South African Tourism.

The 7th E-Tourism Africa Summit will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 4 and 5 September 2014, and at the Museum of African Design in the Maboneng Precinct in Johannesburg on 8 and 9 September 2014.
