There’s an information-hungry 24/7 media world out there. Do you know how to capitalise on it to get the best possible coverage for your company or organisation? Or the optimum way to get your messages across to the media?
What happens if a crisis – great or small – shakes your work environment? How would you handle a doorstepping or a press conference? Would you know how to manage the media in a rolling news environment?
How you communicate with the media can break or make your reputation. You can give confidence, win support, increase your credibility, gain positive editorial publicity, or end up very red in the face.
The golden rule is simple: be prepared.
Flow Communications is a recognised leader in media training. With over two decades of experience, our team of highly skilled professional journalists, news editors and subeditors will guide you through the current dynamic media landscape, and give you the skills to make your mark.
Some of South Africa’s top broadcasters and interviewers, including Jeremy Maggs, Kate Turkington, David O’Sullivan, Jenny Crwys-Williams and Camilla Bath, will teach you what to say and how to say it.
Flow’s media-training clients include prestigious blue-chip companies ranging from Deloitte, Liberty, Royal Bafokeng Holdings, Bidvest Bank, Premier Foods and top property companies, to foreign embassies, government departments, parastatals and universities, among others.
Theory is mixed with practice in highly realistic situations that are filmed and played back for delegates during the training. Many of our clients are repeat clients and choose Flow for our excellent trainers and balanced programme of print, online, TV and radio know-how.
The training is exhilarating and empowering.
With our strong journalistic background, we're also able to offer courses on writing skills, as well as guidance on how to write strong thought leadership and opinion pieces.
Social media training
There is little doubt in the public mind about the increasing power of social media on the world of business – from building (or breaking) reputations, to the power of peer reviews.
An early player in the social media space in South Africa, Flow Communications is proud to have been involved in starting accounts, maintaining platforms and creating content for some of South Africa's most prominent organisations (including the Nelson Mandela Foundation, South African Tourism, Gauteng Tourism and the City of Cape Town). Our team has even been behind two campaigns that have trended at No.1 in the world on Twitter.
We run a range of courses from sessions for beginners who are completely new to the space, to community managers looking to maximise their impact, to companies looking for training that deals with the trends and best practice in their industry.
Google AdWords and search engine optimization (SEO) workshops
Having a website is one thing, but are customers, and more importantly, potential customers, finding you online? Google ranks sites based on two factors – authority and relevance. What does that mean? And are you making the grade?
Our workshop will walk you through how to make your website stand out on the world's biggest search engine, help you understand the way users interact with your site and show you how to track your progress.
The training is carried out by our in-house Google AdWords- and Analytics-certified specialists.
Communications and branding workshops
One of the keys to building a strong brand identity is consistent, relevant messaging with a very clear understanding of who you're talking to. Brands that fail often don't have the fundamentals in place and this can lead to mixed messages and ultimately internal and external communication that is ineffective.
Our communications and branding workshops are run by one of the country's leading brand strategists. Kevin Collins has 30 years’ experience in brand communication – from working for advertising agencies to developing, delivering and managing an honours education programme in brand-building.
Other types of training
Many of Flow’s staff members have extensive experience in training and higher education, particularly in the fields of journalism, graphic design, web development and dealing with the media, and we also offer customised training in social media, graphic design, communications strategy, how to make the most of Google, and other related areas.
We also train in areas very different from journalism and the media. For example, we have conducted several sessions to train the guides at the Maropeng Visitor Centre in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, and how to blog.
