Air pollution is one of Johannesburg’s most pressing environmental and public health challenges, but it is also an issue that many people cannot see or easily connect with. This creates a communications challenge: while poor air quality affects people’s health and the environment, it can be difficult for communities to recognise the connection between the air they breathe, their wellbeing and the need for action.
The purpose of the #PauseAndBreathe campaign was to close this awareness gap. By helping people understand why clean air matters, the campaign aimed to build public support for efforts to reduce air pollution and encourage citizens to see clean air as an issue that affects everyone.
