The Adopt-a-School Foundation is an inspirational non-profit organisation that supports a conducive learning and teaching environment in disadvantaged schools, creating greater opportunities for South Africa’s youth.
The seed for the foundation was planted in 2001, when Cyril Ramaphosa was approached by his former primary school in Soweto to assist with the donation of a fax machine and became aware of the further needs of the school. Since then, the foundation has inspired businesses and individuals to invest effectively in education in South Africa through its “whole school” model.
Flow Communications was proud to acquire the foundation as a client in January 2016, with the brief to produce a coffee-table book with human interest stories by pupils, teachers, parents, headmasters and builders of schools that Adopt-a-School had an impact on.
We produced a beautiful hardcover book of an extremely high calibre, with top-quality photographs and compelling copy telling the positive, real-life stories of the people and schools involved, where they came from and how they want to give back.
Flow has in the past also worked on Adopt-a-School’s website, and in 2016 provided public relations support for its annual Back to School for a Day programme, inviting individuals and companies to “go back to school” and contribute to a stationery drive for Mandela Day and help enrich the lives of disadvantaged learners by sharing time, skills and knowledge. This included media relations services and arranging press interviews around a media event held at a school in Diepsloot.
