Maropeng, the official visitor centre for the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, has launched its new website, which was designed and developed by Flow Communications.

The site emphasises all that visitors can expect at Maropeng: twoworld-class exhibitions (the Maropeng Visitor Centre and its sistersite, the Sterkfontein Caves), a 4-star boutique hotel, restaurants anda world-class conference venue.

Flow Media Developer Richard Frank said, “It was great working onMaropeng again, having been involved in developing the originalexhibition content. I hope people who haven’t been to Maropeng yet willget a taste of it in this online environment.”

Marketing manager for Maropeng, Erica Saunders, said, “We are veryexcited about the new site. We wanted something that was fun, informative and easy to navigate. Our news and events also needed to beclearly presented on the home page. Flow Communications have managed toachieve this and we look forward to receiving feedback from our online visitors.”

Latest news and events are highlighted on the home page, and visitors can watch a short video or subscribe to the newsletter. A highly informative resource tool, the Exhibition Guide, provides users with a multitude of facts about the Cradle of Humankind, the Earth’s history and the path to humanity that our ancestors followed. Online visitors can also download a screensaver of Maropeng’s picturesque setting overlooking the Magaliesberg mountains.

Flow Designer Ernesto Joseph, who together with Brian Palmer came up with the idea of using the iconic Tumulus building as the background to the site, added, “It was a challenging project, but one where the design possibilities were endless. The team pulled together and came upwith a website which we feel sets a benchmark for others. We are really excited about the responses we will get.”
