On Saturday, 26 November, Dancewiththedevil kept her nose in front to win an exciting 2011 Sansui Summer Cup at the Turffontein Racecourse south of Johannesburg.
As the horses streaked by, Flow’s Zintle Mtyeku lay on the grass at the finish line to get the best view of the horses’ hooves thundering by. Her colleagues, Kate Rau and Tara Turkington, were with her, taking pictures and video galore, while back in the hospitality tent, Flow’s project manager for Gauteng Tourism, Roshni Nana, was tweeting and Facebooking the winners before the winner was back for her photographs with the media.
We did all of this in our pink outfits, in line with the “Bling Your Pink” theme. Since pink is Flow’s corporate colour, we thoroughly approved.
After the race, we rushed for our computers and immediately published an article about the race, courtesy of a Cell C 3G card. Lucky Flowstars Kate and Roshni collected their winnings on the main race while consoling Tara and Zintle. Zintle’s horse, Seal, came dead last, so we won’t be asking her for any hot tips next year.
Then we headed back to the office and faster internet, connected and uploaded images to the special section we’d built a couple of weeks ago for the Sansui Summer Cup.
The next few hours were spent at high speed again, uploading five blog posts, several videos and hundreds more photographs.
Said Kay Robertson, who we work with at the Gauteng Tourism Authority, afterwards: “You guys rock!!!! Thanks to all of you for being such pros.”
The day was fabulous and fun and all four Flowstars who worked at the event have claimed first dibs on working at next year’s race, which promises to be even bigger and better if Gauteng’s MEC for Economic Development, Qedani Mahlangu, has her way.
