Flow Communication’s writing studio has expanded once more with the appointment of Laura Maggs who got here and scored herself a nickname. “Baby Maggs” joined on 1 March as a journalist.
She has a Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies degree specialising in Communication Design from Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape.
Laura says she has known about Flow for a while so when she saw the company was looking for a journalist, she was quick to apply.
So far Laura has been spending her days working on mailers and blogs for Flow’s Cape Town-based clients including Cape Town Tourism and Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. She also writes for Flow’s Johannesburg-based clients which include the Gauteng Tourism Authority and the Maropeng Visitor Centre.
So how has Flow been treating “Baby Maggs”? “I’m very happy, I enjoy writing and designing and I think I’m very lucky to be working with such friendly people in my first real job. It’s really rewarding and a great place to work,” she says.
Laura feels privileged to be writing for Flow’s biggest clients, so early into her career. “It’s been a lot of responsibility, but I’m up for the challenge,” she says.
Her first goal on the foosball table was a special moment and she’s enjoyed hanging out with the writestars.
Writing studio manager Colin Ford says “Baby Maggs” is an instant Flowstar – just add water.
“She’s a hugely talented writer and has integrated marvellously into the writing team and into the greater Flow family.”
Colleagues also have only the best to say about “Baby Maggs”. Journalist Bianca Bothma says, “She is a fantastic addition to our studio. She has worked on a number of diverse accounts and has produced quality content each time. She has a positive attitude towards work and is friendly, which makes her a great colleague.”
This year Laura says she is looking forward to seeing where her strengths lie as a writer and being more involved in other parts of Flow, whether it’s design or programming. “I love the fact that Flow will give me the opportunity to incorporate my love of writing with design and programming.”
In her spare time, Laura loves reading, spending time with her family and traveling when she gets the chance.
Flow welcomes Laura aka “Baby Maggs” to the family.
