Flow Communications produces print and email newsletters for clients on a weekly and monthly basis. The subjects range from heritage and tourism (Maropeng) to wildlife (Earth-Touch), hospitality (Clico Guesthouse), medicine (Soweto Cardiovascular Research Unit) and school news (St Mary’s and Dominican Convent School).
Veritas, for example, is a weekly print newsletter whichcovers events at Dominican Convent School, giving parents and otherstakeholders a record of activities and reminders about upcomingevents, as well as a message from the headmaster and words from thechildren themselves.
There is certainly a lot to record in this centenary year for theschool. Similarly, St Mary’s School is celebrating its 120th year, and has plenty going on. Over time, these weekly newsletters capture the life and soul of a school and communicate its values and strengths.
Regular travellers and people in the travel industry can get monthly email updates on what Clico Guesthouse in Rosebank, Johannesburg offers– special deals and events as well as details of the luxury accommodation and outstanding meals available.
Flow can link a newsletter like this to the client’s website, sothat recipients can easily access past newsletters. An added advantage of email newsletters is that Flow can tell the client who opened thenewsletter and how often. This is a valuable tool in market research.
Flow graphic designers Lorraine Gumede and Ernesto Joseph are thecreative talents behind these newsletters. Lorraine says designing anewsletter from scratch usually takes her four or five hours, dependingon the content.
“Designing an online newsletter requires creativity, attention to detail, sourcing the right type of images, placing text, and changesback and forth,” explains Lorraine. She says she tries to do something unique and appropriate for every client. “All clients are different, so I use a distinct design template for each.”
