This month, Flow added two more journalists to its writing staff. Stuart Dickinson and Matt van Onselen are both Joburg born and bred, and share a passion for writing, music and philosophy.

A former news editor and runner-up for the Sanlam/MDDA 2010 Best Hard News Journalist Award, Stuart brings a wealth of writing talent, creative input, and foosball glory to Flow. He obtained a BA Journalism degree from the University of Johannesburg, and also has an interest in pursuing a career in investigative journalism.

Stuart has been working on several projects for Flow in recent weeks, including the Two Oceans Aquarium website, Etana Insurance, Standard Bank, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway and the Gauteng and Cape Town tourism projects.

“Everyone is easy to get along with, and I’m enjoying the work from Flow’s Cape Town office. Now they just need to send me to some awesome overseas conferences and I’ll stick around for good!” he jokes.

When he’s not writing or supporting his rubbish team, Liverpool, he plays rhythm and lead guitar for his heavy metal band, Renounce. This loud exercise distracts him from other daydreams of being paid to travel the world.

Stuart has always loved to write, and we can be sure to see the qualities of this journalist/media developer come to the fore at Flow, unless his plan to convert the boardroom into a band room comes off.

New to the media industry, Matt joined the Flow team in March with a Masters in philosophy under his belt from Wits. Along with his “strokey beard” powers, he also hopes to bring a new writing dynamic to the Flow studio and use this critical thinking in researching and writing content for, amongst others, the Maropeng website, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the 46664 campaign.

“It’s always good to be able to step back and look at something from a different perspective,” he says.

Matt also studied French and travelled to France for a year after obtaining his Masters in an attempt to blend in with the locals and cement the language on his tongue. He taught English there for some time.

Speaking of Flow he says, “I’ve been made to feel so welcome and there’s such a variety of work here, I doubt I’ll ever be bored.”

Matt has a keen interest in writing comedy and played in a Pink Floyd tribute band before his days in France. “Pink Floyd is the ultimate band. If I could have my way, their music would be streaming through the office 24/7!”

It means we will get lot more to read from now. Stuart looks so talented and his previous experience says so many things. Only such talented people can understand what the readers want how to present things in front of them.  A good writer can attract the readers through his style of writing. I have a passion for writing, could you guide me with the St. Louis online payroll they would be getting for this job. It forces the readers to stay on the site and read the article they started. Matt is going to please us with some funny stuff.
