Darren Caboz: Quiet at work but hard at play

Since 16 January, 2012, Darren Caboz, Flow’s newest programmer, has been hard at work. Working on what? Well, digital cards and only a hundred or so.

“We designed templates in class, but it was nothing like this. I had to spend the first few days at work doing a refresher course on programming for HTML and CSS. After that, I needed to translate the cards into code and then make sure that they were exactly the same on the website as the original designs. So far I’m on number 38 out of 150.

“The challenge,” as Darren explains it, “was that I was designing something from scratch with no template or layout. I had never done this before and it’s taken me a while to get the card layouts correct.”

At home Darren is a busy person.

“He is an avid Liverpool supporter and likes to play Xbox,” his mother and now co-worker Rosalind Caboz says. “He’s also a talented soccer player and a gym enthusiast. But don’t let this quiet, unassuming character fool you; he is a very capable, confident young man. He can create quite a racket, especially when he’s playing Xbox.

In addition to this, Darren still is managing to find time to study part-time. He is completing his final year of business communications (BCom Information Management) at Damelin.

Darren doesn’t have much to say about his busy schedule. In fact, it’s rare when he does talk. However, he does believe that his being at Flow Communications will be beneficial as he can learn a lot from his fellow Flowstars.

“He’s very quiet,” says fellow programmer Dimitri Kouvdis, “but he just keeps on swimming”.

“I’m not used to all the geek talk in the office,” explains Darren. “For now I am going to listen. Once I understand the techno lingo better, I’ll talk.”
