Flow trains media practitioners at IAJ

Flow Communicaitons was called on this week by the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ) in Johannesburg to assist with a training course for media practitioners from the Municipal Demarcation Board and the Mpumalanga Department of Safety, Security and Liaison. The three-day course, entitled “Dealing with the Media”, aimed to assist spokespeople and PR /communication officers in developing and maintaining successful relationships with members of the press. CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Awards 2010, Uganda

Last week, I travelled to Uganda for the first time, courtesy of MultiChoice Africa, to conduct media training for their country managers.
We were there over the weekend, and were privileged to be guests at the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Awards, held at the luxurious Kampala Serena Hotel on Saturday, May 29.
The who’s who of African journalism were at the awards, which attracted more than 2 000 entries from 42 countries. We were very proud when a South African, e.tv’s Sam Rogers, won the overall award, African Journalist of the Year, for her TV piece on albinos in Tanzania who are literally hunted for their skin. In her acceptance speech, Rogers said that more than 50 albinos have been murdered in Tanzania in the past year, most of them by people seeking their body parts for muti. Hopefully, Rogers’ award will help to highlight and halt this horrific practice.

Kate Turkington inducted into MTN Radio Hall of Fame

Crisis management media training

A new media training course conducted by Flow Communications, in partnership with media personalities Jeremy Maggs and Kate Turkington, equips managers to turn any interaction with the media – even one in a crisis situation – to their advantage.
Through a series of simulated radio, print and television interviews, trainees get a sense of the type of questions to expect from journalists, and the tactics they might use to get them answered. Read more…
