Flow presents the latest HIV/AIDS and the Media Project publication

One of Flow’s recent projects has been the production of the HIV/AIDS and the Media Project discussion forum’s booklet, How healthy is our news? The state of health reporting in South Africa.
The HIV/AIDS and the Media Project’s main focus at its eighth discussion forum, held at the Wits Origins Centre on October 22, 2009, was to look into the role and impact of the news media on the HIV pandemic.
The book is a full-colour document, designed using the Project’s corporate colours. The cover is a collage of images representing the media, finished off with minimal images, fine text and white spaces for an attractive, easy read. Read more…

Flow reveals the many faces of Cape Point

Cape Point boasts some of the most breathtaking ocean and mountain scenery on the planet. This narrow stretch of land, dotted with beautiful valleys, bays and beaches, contains a mix of extraordinarily diverse fauna and flora and forms part of the Cape Floral Region, a World Heritage Site.
It completes Cape Town’s “Big Six” attractions, along with Table Mountain, Robben Island, the V&A Waterfront, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and the Constantia Vineyards.
Flow was enthusiastic and excited about putting together new brochures in time for the Indaba tourism expo, for this premier tourist attraction for our long-standing client, the Thebe Tourism Group. Read more…

Designing the Turning off the Tap booklet

Turning off the Tap, produced by the aids2031 consortium of partners, aims to understand the HIV/AIDS pandemic response, consider the implications of the disease in a changing world and chart a long-term response to the pandemic to change the face of AIDS in Africa by 2031 in Africa.
Flow Communications was approached to design the booklet and the project became my responsibility.

Flow designs 2010 prospectus for Pridwin

Pridwin Preparatory School recently approached Flow Communications to design its 2010 prospectus. The prospectus was to briefly outline Pridwin’s values, its scholars’ academic achievements and their sporting spirit, among other qualities.
Pridwin Preparatory School is a Christian boys’ school catering for learners from Grade 0-7. It is situated in Melrose, Johannesburg, and has been welcoming students for 87 years, since it was founded in 1923. Read more…

Cofisa aims to improve local innovation systems

Cofisa (formally the Cooperation Framework on Innovation Systems between Finland and South Africa) is an initiative between Finland and South Africa, aiming to improve local innovation systems. The programme has been running for the past few years and intends to bring European expertise to the South African context, to help local people find ways to solve their problems and address their issues in a constructive manner.
The Cofisa book was a summary of the exercises embarked on and lessons learned from the process. Read more…

Journ-AIDS provides safe passage through HIV/AIDS reporting minefield

HIV/AIDS is a tricky subject to cover, journalistically speaking.
In addition to being a chronic illness which, if left untreated, is fatal, it also carries with it social stigma that has seen people vilified, ostracised, and in some cases, murdered, simply for having contracted the disease.
Reporting on the disease abounds with stereotypes and stereotyping. The Fourth Estate is encouraged to provide an independent voice and perspective, but it’s all too easy to simply reflect the views of those who see the disease as “a whore’s disease”, “a gay disease” or “a black disease”.
